There was a time when bass fishing was considered a time of recreation and relaxation. It seem with the ever growing popularity of the sport and increasing number of tournaments that the relaxation of a day on the lake has dwindled. We spend more time looking for that prime water not stacked with other anglers or pleasure boaters and less time enjoying our fishing. It’s time to get back to fishing with less crowds, plenty of fish, and the relaxing environment we once knew – Columbia Lakes Sporting Club. As you crest the levee and gaze of the calm waters of this 300 acre private lake it immediately stirs the desire to cast that first lure. The initial impression of this pristine environment is amplified once out on the lake and fishing. Simply being on the lake is sufficient to calm even the most ragged of nerves but the amazing fishing on this lake ensures that all of the worries of the daily grind simply disappear. |

Columbia Lakes is a very
unique body of water which is fertile with vegetation and wildlife. Due
to the healthy grass population, the water clarity is unbelievable for
Texas and the levied shoreline keep even the strongest of winds at bay –
allowing for some incredible sight fishing in the spring. The forage
base for the largemouth bass in Columbia Lakes is in great supply and
the fish eat all day long. This little gem of a fishery is a frog
fisherman’s paradise. Frogs are the predominant food source for the
fish and they do not waist a change to eat one – leading to explosive
top water action. The result of the thought and planning put into the creation of Columbia Lakes is what makes it a unique fishery that produces astounding numbers all year long. Deep trenches were cut |

and the soil was piled to create several islands throughout the lake along with the surrounding levee. The result of this action created some of the best year round structure for fishing. The vertical walls of vegetation with up to ten foot of water beside them lend to the perfect ambush grounds for the bass to lay and wait. With miles of vertical grass lines to fish, this 300 acre lake fishes nothing like its size. Unlike a large reservoir, the entire body of water at Columbia Lakes is prime bass habitat and fishable from the outer most edge to the absolute center – there are no bad places to fish. Columbia Lakes has experienced fishing guides ready to take you on a fishing adventure you will never forget. With an ample supply of double digit bucketmouths lurking in the dense vegetation, you might just catch the fish of a lifetime. |
